Helicopter Evacuation in Dothracki Canyon with Dan Cottam.

Dan and his family were Canyoneering in Englestead canyon near Zion NP when his son saw Stephen Baker fall on the first rappel. It was a 300 foot rap that he lost control on and fell the last 80 or so feet. As a former Trauma surgeon Dan tried to help but was limited due to the remote location. Shortly after that incident, Dan him self needed a helicopter rescue after he fell in Dotracki canyon near Hilldale UT. He tell what he learned from both of those accidents.

Dan grew up in Texas and went to BYU in Utah and fell in love with the mountains. He is now a 50 something weight loss surgeon who works in Salt Lake City. He has 5 kids, and has been married for 30 years. He ran for governor in 2019 as a libertarian and got 3.5 % of the vote (55,000) which he was thrilled with. He enjoy skiing(all types), rafting and mountain biking when not canyoneering anything which gets me out of the inside. His favorite color is orange.
